Jan 31- Report Cards Come Home

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned about fractions in math.
How did you show what you learned?
We read a story called Moira's Birthday which was about fractions. We also did worksheets that had fractions and we had to tell what the numerator and the denominator were. Then we would make our own fraction with the same numerator and denominator.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn to order fractions.

Jan 30 - The Popping Out Hand

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned how to draw a 3D hand using straight lines and curved lines.
How did you show what you learned?
We used rulers to create the straight lines. This is good practice for our next math unit which is measurement. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn the unit measurement in math.

Jan 26 - Turn the Tune!

2 FAF tomorrow - we will be continuing with our Ethnobotany activities in the Whispering Woods tomorrow, so please dress for the weather.

What did you learn today?
We are practicing our songs on the ukelele.
How did you show what you learned?
We record our finished song on the computer and submit it to Ms Stephure.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn more chords so we can play more songs.

Jan 25- Do You Need It Or Do You Want It?

What did you learn today?
We learned more about the Blackfoot needs and wants.
How did you show what you learned?
We had two pieces of paper with columns. We went to different stations and sketched the artifact, said what it is made of and what it is used for.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn how they would build their shelter and how they used the different items.

Jan 24 - Buffalo Stones!

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned more about the Blackfoot people. 
How did you show what you learned?
We looked at genuine First Nations artifacts from Fort Calgary. We had to sketch them, name them and tell whether they were a want or a need. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to sketch all of the items in order to learn more about the Blackfoot way of life. We need to know how the artifacts were made.

Jan 23 - I Think I Was Drawing A Spatula Tree!

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned how to shade and draw very detailed trees today in Art.
How did you show what you learned?
We looked back to our sketches from last FAF and made some impressive improvements to our original drawings.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to fix all of our drawings and try to use what we learned to make more realistic drawings next Friday when we finish our Ethnobotany activity.

Jan 20 - I Need Some Medicine

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned about the medicinal uses and other uses of plants that the Blackfoot people would have used them for. We pretended we were ethnobotanists. 
How did you show what you learned?
We had a book that had information about the plants in our WW. We got a card with symptoms. We had to research which plant might be used to cure the symptoms on the card. We then had to find the plant and sketch the plant and place it on our map in our field journals. We also had to add some jot notes about the uses for each plant in our journals.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to re-sketch the different plants in the different seasons. It would be interesting to research if some of these plants are used still for humans today. We need to research more about how plants grow (or don't grow) in the different seasons.
