Important Items This Week: 

  • Swimming on Wednesday - Last Day! Students may bring money for 1 vending machine snack.
  • We are collecting donations for the food bank and the class with the most donations wins! Please bring non-perishable items for our class collection. Wednesday is the last day.
Monday:

  • Remembrance Day - no school

Tuesday: 
  • Swimming happens tomorrow. PLEASE remember your swimsuit and your towel and your underwear. We will be leaving the school at 1:45, so parents who are volunteering please be here at 1:40pm. Bring money for the vending machine if you want to.
Wednesday:
  • Swimming today
  • Library Day today
  • Running/Walking Club

Thursday:

  • Author visit at 9:30 in the Learning Commons
  • Fun Lunch today

Friday:
  • FAF - please dress for the weather!

Nov 4-8 End of Week 10

End of Week 10! 

Important for next week!

  • No school on Monday because it is Remembrance Day
  • Swimming Wednesday - if you want to bring money for the vending machine, we will be allowed to use it for our last day of swimming.
  • Wednesday is Spirit Day Club at lunch
  • We are currently in first place for Food Bank donations with 91 items! Donations are being accepted until Wednesday, so if you can bring any more items, please do!
  • Fun Lunch next week
  • Ms Cowdy will be back and we will miss Ms. Brunsch SOOOO MUCH!

We were watching Welcome to Boomtown Buster and we were learning about the history of Calgary. We watched the first episode.

Jiarui, our Math blogger reports:
This week, we learned math related to fall. We also had to count large groups of numbers. We have many strategies like counting by tens or counting by twos.

Joachim, our Daily Five blogger reports:
Today in Daily 5 we started our Homonyms, prefixes, and suffixes. The next thing we started was read with the teacher and then we continued Raz Kids and read to self. The next thing we started was WOW #6.

Nicholas, our Special Event Remembrance Day blogger reports:
In the Remembrance Day assembly today we first entered the gym and there was music and after we entered the gym we sang O Canada led by the Kindergarteners. Then the portable read a poem that was "In Flanders Fields" then Evelyn, a Grade 5 student played a piece on the piano and Anya sang it.

This week in Social Studies, we had to finish our survey titled, What Would Make Brentwood a Better Place or Community?`We had to see which one of the places that we came up with had the most people vote for it.

Nicholas, our Math blogger reports:
In Math this week, we worked on our Halloween math problems and decreasing patterns.

Jiarui, our Daily Five blogger reports:
There are 4 choices in daily five, read to self, word work sheets, work on writing and listen to reading. (Raz kids) This week in read to self, we read for 30 minutes, for word work sheets, we have a dictionary work sheet and work on writing, we got to finish our spooky story. (write and type)Last but not least, is listen to reading, we go to Raz kids, an online website and read books for about 30 minutes.

  • Halloween Parade Thursday at 1:15pm
Halloween Parade info:
Halloween costume expectations and parade details – be respectful of the costumes you are choosing for your child to wear to school. We also discourage violent type or extremely scary costumes.  Do not bring all of the props or extra items that go along with your costume. Leave props at home. Bring your costume to school, Ms Cowdy will let you change into it at 1:00pm. The Halloween parade will start at about 1:20 pm.

Oct 21-26 End of Week 8

End of Week 8!

Important for next week!
Swimming Monday and Wednesday this week
Halloween Parade Thursday afternoon at 1:20pm
No school on Friday, Nov 1 as it is a non instructional day
Halloween Parade info:

Halloween costume expectations and parade details – be respectful of the costumes you are choosing for your child to wear to school. We also discourage violent type or extremely scary costumes.  Do not bring all of the props or extra items that go along with your costume. Leave props at home. The Halloween parade will start at about 1:20 pm. 

Reminder for students:
Students please look after your belongings and put them in your backpacks and zip your backpacks up. There seems to be a lot of extra hats, mitts, etc. being left on the shelves rather than being put away. Outdoor footwear stays down on the mat and indoor shoes go up on the shelf, or left in the classroom.

Yafet, our Social Studies blogger says:
In Social Studies this week we had to look at a mural that was near the swimming pool and find out what was important to people in Brentwood by sketching and thinking about the objects in the mural. We also looked at the painting son the side walk behind the community garden as well as the paintings in the community garden.

Leo, our Math blogger reports:
This week in math, we continued in increasing number patterns. We also had to do our Halloween math problems and correct our math stretch corrections.

Nicholas, our Daily Five blogger reports:
In Daily Five, we did our groups in daily five.There were five different things Ms. Cowdy gave us. We started guided reading groups, we are writing our spooky story in Work on Writing, and we did a dictionary scavenger hunt in Word Work.

Dhvani, tells us about Science this week:
In Science, did a lot of review for the Science test about light and shadow. The test had questions about light and shadow that we learned throughout the unit.
