We learned that Terry Fox ran 42km everyday.
How did you show what you learned?
We ran the Terry Fox Run today. We ran 134 laps as a class, which was 3 away from our goal of 137.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to try to reach our goal next year.

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We continued our Word Work from yesterday. We were doing a spelling activity called making words. Yesterday we used a strip of letters to create as many words as we could that had an ote, er and ent pattern in them.
How did you show what you learned?
We finished the other activities which were Sort - put them in the column under the different patterns and we did transfer which was spelling new words with the patterns and finally we had to make good sentences that show that we understood what the words mean.
What do you need to learn next?
We want to be able to use these skills to help us spell correctly in our other work.

We learned how to conduct an interview.
How did you show what you learned?
We got a partner and we asked them questions that don't involve a yes or no answer. These are called open ended or INQUIRY questions.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to finish our interviews and write a summary of our interview notes in our journals. Some of us may have enough time to type them.

We looked up the word jog and found juicy words for "jog."

We are hoping to start using more juicy words in our writing. This will also help us to paint pictures in people's minds.

We learned how to pass a soccer ball to a team mate in gym.

We had partners, and we passed each other the ball and after that we stood next to our partner and dribbled around in a circle.

We need to learn more skills that the pro soccer players have.

Sept 20-Visiting Countries

We learned about the countries that we are going to be studying in Social Studies this year. They are Peru, India, Ukraine, Tunisia.

We looked on Google Earth to see where the countries were in the world and we started to make our passports.
What do you need to learn next?
We are going to learn about the places.

We learned about plants.

We were junior botanists today. Dr Cowdy and Dr Jones gave us fieldwork assignment, which involved going out to the the WW and observing our adopted plant. We took down research notes and labeled sketches of our plant. we also tried to identify the species. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn how to take care of our plant.

Sept 8 - My Pet Plant

3 If your child brings home work in the black homework folder, it means that they did not get their work done in the class time given. Their Journal assignment: How To Get Your Dr. Coffin Student Ready for School was to be finished and COPS'd today with yellow (capitals) and pink (punctuation) They were to pick 3 topics to explain how to get a student ready and why. Please help them to find time to get this finished.

We learned about plants that grow through all the seasons.
How did you show what you learned?
We got a buddy and went out to the WW or the NG and took a picture of the plant that we are going to adopt for the year. We only stayed out for a short while as the smoke index was high.
What do you need to learn next?
We hope to learn more about how to take care of them.

We learned how to make equations or math sentences.

We did an activity called Figure Me Out. We had to figure out our age in plusses and minuses. You could also use multiplication and division.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to finish the Figure Me Out sheet and we will be learning about making more equations and finding the answers.

Sept 5 - SHHH! Be Quiet!

We learned about the different volumes of our voices.
How did you show what you learned?
We read the book, Decibella, and her Six Inch Voice. There were 5 different levels of voices: Table Talk, Whisper, Outside Voice, Strong Speaker Voice and the 6 Inch Voice. Ask me to demonstrate each of them to you!
What do you need to learn next?
We need to practice using these voices in their appropriate places.
