5 CPAWS/Green Calgary Media release form - please send back indicating whether you agree or not so that I can make a list. Students who do not bring one back will not be photographed. We will be participating in the YYC Young Citizen Science Program, learning about bird watching and bird identification on Friday Nov 3 and Nov 24. Both days we will be outside for the majority of the morning, so please make sure that you have appropriate clothing and extra layers. 

****On Nov 24, we would like to go up to Nose Hill to do the last session of the program and we will need volunteers. Please email Ms. Cowdy, kjcowdy@cbe.ab.ca or Ms. Jones, sacjones@cbe.ab.ca if you have current security clearance and would like to come with us.*****

6 Please note: Please remember that bringing toys to school are discouraged and should not be brought, unless for a sharing time (Grade 1/2 and K classes for the most part). We are running into issues where the  items are causing distractions in classes and taking additional time to try and track down missing items.

3 Halloween Parade tomorrow afternoon - we will have a movie afterward but please do not bring any treats to hand out to the class. The mystery movie is a part of our daily Five activities.

We learned to estimate sums (G4) and we learned to round to the nearest 10 (G3)
How did you show what you learned?
We worked in the textbook and answered some questions about estimation and rounding.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn to estimate quickly so that when we are in a store, we will know if we have enough money to buy the things we want.

Oct 25 - Our Science Experiment

We learned how to do a science experiment including asking a question, hypothesis, procedure, materials list and observations and conclusion.
How did you show what you learned?
We set up an experiment with paper towels, water, food colouring (the primary colours) and plastic glasses. Ask me about it!
What do you need to learn next?
We need to make some observations and make a conclusion.

We learned where we walked on our FAF Community tour. 
How did you show what you learned?
We used a map and highlighted the route that we took to do our walk. We also highlighted the things that our community provides. Ask me about that.
What do you need to learn next?
We are learning this because when we travel to the different countries that we are studying this year, we will be able to compare the quality of life and the things that their communities provide for the people from those countries.

3 FAF tomorrow - we will be going for a community walk so please dress for the weather.

What did you learn today?
We learned about what we are going to be doing in our work on writing activity about a haunted house.
How did you show what you learned?
We got in partners and we got a planner or a web to collect our ideas about the features of our haunted house.
What do you need to learn next?
We are going to use these ideas to write up our for sale ad. We are then going to put this up with our artwork, which by the way is bone chilling, dreadfully haunted, creepy, spooky, fantastic, extremely scary, sketchy, horrific and bewitched.

We learned how to use shading and blending of white and a colour to create the backgrounds for our haunted houses in art.
How did you show what you learned?
We used white paint and one other colour to create lighter to dark shades for our haunted house background.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to create the house and then write up a for sale advertisement for our houses.

We went back outside and did more on our adopt a plant sheet and those that finished played "hog call."
How did you show what you learned?
We described how much sunlight our plant need and we described what the soil looked like, felt like and how much moisture it had.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to find out how we can help our plant survive, what our plant evolved from, if they grow back in the summer (perennial and annual?) and about their DNA.

Top Three Things We Learned
1.          We learned how to play a new card game in math. It was about choosing three cards from a pile and when you drew three cards you needed to order them to make the highest number possible.
2.          In gym today we played our first soccer game of the year. The gym was divided into three sections. Ms. Jones put us is into teams of six. She put each team leader into a section of a gym. The teams across from each other played a game against each other.
3.          For technology time, we sent Ms. Cowdy an emailing writing down four people who we wanted to sit with and telling someone who was an outstanding citizen.

What do we need to learn next?

We need to learn what we are going to do with the outstanding citizen!
