Summer-Watering Volunteers Still Needed

Hello friends and family of Dr. E. W. Coffin School,
We are still looking for volunteers to help us out over the summer months to water our plants that are in our gardens outside.  If you can help us out, please see our watering schedule to sign-up for a date that works for you.  We need watering of the Sun Circle garden and of our new(er) aspen trees.  Please use this link to register:

June 20 - Explorers!

2 Red Duotangs are coming home if you have all your corrections done.

5 Wednesday next week is a half day and the last day of school!
6 Last FAF We will not be going to Nose Hill tomorrow because of the weather and will be planning the day closer to the school dependent on when the rain falls.

What did you learn today?
We learned how to see the world from someone else's point of view.
How did you show what you learned?
We had to pretend we were a voyageur in the fur trade. We had to write a journal entry of a day in the life of a voyageur.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to finish our journals if we are not done because Ms Cowdy needs them for report cards.

June 19 - Transition Day

4 Year End Assembly at 9 am Tuesday, Grade 6 Farewell at 2pm
5 Wednesday next week is a half day and the last day of school!
6 Last FAF This Friday we are hoping to enjoy our last Fresh Air Friday up on Nose Hill. Saakokoto will be with us and will share stories of the land and Summer Solstice with each class. We require volunteers for the walk to Nose Hill. If you are able to volunteer, please let me know by email. kjcowdy@cbe.ab.ca
We are also planning to have some fun activities up on the hill. We will head up to Nose Hill at 9 AM and return by 11:30.

We learned about transition day today.
How did you show what you learned?
Grade 4 - Went to grade 5/6 classroom and did an edit of a paragraph, math mobiles that we had to balance the values
Grade 3 - the grade two students came and we did a survey and made a line plot graph.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to imagine what next year will be like from this sneak peek.

June 18 - The Voyageur's Trip

5 Transition Day 9-10am - Gr 4's will go to the 5/6 class to see what next year will be like. Gr 2's will be coming to room 5.

We learned about the voyageurs.
How did you show what you learned?
We watched a video about one of the trips the voyageurs took. We answered some questions and we took some notes.
What do you need to learn next?
We are going to make a journal entry about what it was like to be a voyageur.

June 17 - City Districts

What did you learn today?
We learned about all the city districts that we are going to be using for our Shape project, Geometrocity.
How did you show what you learned?
We had to fill out a permit showing that we understood the shapes and meanings of different geometry terms. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to get a stamp from our mayor and choose a city district to work on.

June 14 - I Will Trade the Log For a Fur Coat

What did you learn today?
We learned about the fur trade.
How did you show what you learned?
We played the fur trade game. Half of us were First Nations traders, and the other half were Trade Merchants from Montreal. Ask me about it.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn more about the voyageurs.

June 13, 2019 - Strengths and Weaknesses

What did you learn today?
We learned if the changes we made to our vehicles made them travel farther. 
How did you show what you learned?
We had test trial #2 with Miss Jones.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to compare our cars with other students cars, to compare strengths and weaknesses of the vehicles.

June 12 - Travel Vroom Vroom!!

What did you learn today?
We learned about the arrival of the British in Social Studies.
We learned in science that it takes a lot of trial and error to make something better.
How did you show what you learned?
We highlighted our reading passages and recorded important information in point form notes.
We worked on our cars for the last day.  We are doing our test trial #2 tomorrow.

What do you need to learn next?
We are going to continue mapping the waterways that the Voyageurs used to travel across Canada.
We are going to see how our cars travel.

What did you learn today?
We learned how to write up our observations for our trial #1 of our cars.
How did you show what you learned?
We had tell 2 observations about how our car worked and using the words from the evalutation. Ask me what effectiveness, durability, effort to use,and reliability mean. We also had to tell 2 problems that we had and 1 or more changes we were going to make and how to change it.
What do you need to learn next?
We are going to test our fixed cars on Thursday. We will have one more garage session tomorrow.

We made reflections of our original name and kept repeating it until all the spots were filled.

We need to colour our artwork.

We saw how different people used different forces to make their cars move.
How did you show what you learned?
We watched different people race their cars. We wrote down how far our car went and we observed whether our car worked or not. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to make some improvements to see if we can improve our car's performance.

We watched a video about the fur trade and we answered questions. We also read some information about the arrival of the French and we highlighted important information and then we wrote sown 5 important points.
What do you need to learn next?
We are going to learn about the arrival of the British next!
