End of Week 26

End of Week 26! 

Important for next week!

Logan, our Daily Five blogger reports:

This week in Daily Five we did our rotations. We also started WOW #16 We made a story about a magic bean. We also worked on finishing our daily five checklists. We did our weekly spelling test today.

Trinity, our Math blogger reports:

This week in math we did multiplication. We have been working on the times tables. This week we learned/reviewed the 4 times table and the 8 times table. Ms Cowdy taught us rhyming quotes from the Greg Tang website to help us remember strategies for figuring them out. 

Abdulahad, our Science blogger reports:

In Science this week, we did an experiment on rust. We are testing nails. We painted one with nail polish and one with paint. The other one was a galvanized nail and a regular nail. We put them all in water and we will observe them over the next three weeks.

Leander, our Social Studies blogger says:

This week in Social Studies, we finished looking at all the pictures in the Coventry Hills mural and we sketched and wrote about the events on the mural in our visual journals.

  • A green form came home today with youngest or only child. Please fill these forms out and return to the school by this Friday. 
  • Tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day. Anti-Bullying Day is a day when people wear mainly a pink shirt to symbolize a stand against bullying, an idea that originated in Canada. 
  • Thanks to all the people who brought treats in for Treat day! It was a great success!

This week in Daily Five we filled in our checklist. Today we also had a spelling test on our Word Work words. WOW #15 this week was about activities we liked to do with our families. Some students who are not finished may be bringing their journals home to finish.

Abdulahad, our Math blogger reports:

This week in math we are working on mastery of multiplication facts. We working on our 2's and 4's, which is review for the 4's. We tested to see how many 2X table facts we knew. We are looking for the facts that we need to practice. 
Leander, our Science blogger reports:

In Science this week, we were testing bridges and learned that you should use triangles because it helps spread out the weight. We also did a structures STEM activity at My World day at Simon Fraser school. We also had the chance to view the University of Calgary's cool solar car. See the pictures below.

Senna, our Social Studies blogger says:

This week in Social Studies, we were looking at photos that Ms Cowdy took of the fences in the Coventry Hills mural. The pictures on the fences were painted to represent Calgary's history. We had to sketch the ones we recognized and knew about and write a bit about them.Our challenge this weekend is to try and figure out what the symbols represent in the pictures above.
