Nov 30 - Coffin Cares

Highlights
What did you do today?
We had our first Coffin Cares assembly.
How did you show what you did?
We learned about different clubs that are running in our school. We also recognized students who showed respect for self, others and the environment. People in the Green Team, DC and the WE club were recognized for their dedication and contributions to our school.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn how to care more for each other so that we create an even more caring school.

Nov 29 - Game of Nine Cards

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We played addition games with decks of cards. We also learned the game of nine cards.
How did you show what you learned?
We played with a partner and tried to make 15 with three cards. Ask me to teach you!
What do you need to learn next?

Yesterday we learned about Tunisia in a presentation.
How did you show what you learned?
We played a board game that had questions that we had to answer about Tunisia. We also got shown artifacts from Tunisia, we made a mosaic and we played a game about exports, imports and goods and services.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn more about Tunisia.

Nov 24 - We Had to be Professional

3 FAF - 2nd part of CPAWS/Green Calgary Young Citizen Scientists presentation. We will be walking around the community for about an hour and then outside in the school yard for another hour, so please dress for the weather. Please bring a snack or two because we will be burning off energy tomorrow!!! Please bring back media release if you have not sent it back yet as CPAWS will be filming those students who have a media release.
Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned what went into a professional music performance.
How did you show what you learned?
We recorded and filmed Basia Bulat's song, "Fool," for the CBC Classroom Music contest. The top three schools get their songs put on the radio and the winning school gets $10 000 worth of music equipment.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to wait and see what the judges think of our entry.

We did word work today.

We finished sorting our ness, ight, less pattern words and we made transfer words and wrote our sentences.
What do you need to learn next?
We want to be able to use these patterns to help us spell words correctly in our writing

Nov 14-Tunisia, Tunisia!

What did you learn today?
We learned where Tunisia is. Ask me what continent it is on!
How did you show what you learned?
We looked at where Tunisia is with Google Earth on the computer and then we filled in information on a map. We then looked at the weather in Tunisia and used that information to fill in a sheet shaped like a suitcase. We put all the things that we would need to travel to Tunisia.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn how they live and whether it is different from how we live here, learn about their culture, what languages they speak, if it is dangerous there, and the ways they live.

What did you learn today?
We learned why the shadows are getting bigger and smaller and moving.
How did you show what you learned?
We went out and measured our shadows yesterday and on the last sunny day. We also watched a video clip about how shadows move with the sun.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn that when the sun moves behind the clouds we need to learn if we can see the sun and what that is called (transparent, opaque or transclucent)Nok

We need to put the finishing touches and then display them for our assembly.

What did you learn today?
We learned how to do poppy art like the artist Georgia O'Keefe. She likes to paint from a bee's eye view.
How did you show what you learned?
We used "inchy" paper, we taped it with squiggly tape, we used oil pastels to outline and then used waterpaint to cover the paper.
What do you need to learn next?
We will be making a set of 4 inchy paper art to put together for Remembrance Day.

We learned how to round to the nearest ten and hundred.
How did you show what you learned?
We filled out a sheet about estimating sums. We had to estimate to figure out if the answer was reasonable.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn to round to the nearest thousand and add two to three digit numbers.
