End of Week 9! Have a safe and fun Halloween!

This week in Social Studies, we had to finish our survey titled, What Would Make Brentwood a Better Place or Community?`We had to see which one of the places that we came up with had the most people vote for it.

Nicholas, our Math blogger reports:
In Math this week, we worked on our Halloween math problems and decreasing patterns.

Jiarui, our Daily Five blogger reports:
There are 4 choices in daily five, read to self, word work sheets, work on writing and listen to reading. (Raz kids) This week in read to self, we read for 30 minutes, for word work sheets, we have a dictionary work sheet and work on writing, we got to finish our spooky story. (write and type)Last but not least, is listen to reading, we go to Raz kids, an online website and read books for about 30 minutes.

  • Swimming on Monday and Wednesday
  • Halloween Parade Thursday at 1:15pm
Halloween Parade info:
Halloween costume expectations and parade details – be respectful of the costumes you are choosing for your child to wear to school. We also discourage violent type or extremely scary costumes.  Do not bring all of the props or extra items that go along with your costume. Leave props at home. Bring your costume to school, Ms Cowdy will let you change into it at 1:00pm. The Halloween parade will start at about 1:20 pm.

Tuesday: 
  • Today was treat day
  • Swimming happens tomorrow. PLEASE remember your swimsuit and your towel and your underwear. We will be leaving the school at 1:45, so parents who are volunteering please be here at 1:40pm. Oct 21-26 End of Week 8

End of Week 8!

Important for next week!
Swimming Monday and Wednesday this week
Halloween Parade Thursday afternoon at 1:20pm
No school on Friday, Nov 1 as it is a non instructional day
Halloween Parade info:

Halloween costume expectations and parade details – be respectful of the costumes you are choosing for your child to wear to school. We also discourage violent type or extremely scary costumes.  Do not bring all of the props or extra items that go along with your costume. Leave props at home. The Halloween parade will start at about 1:20 pm. 

Reminder for students:
Students please look after your belongings and put them in your backpacks and zip your backpacks up. There seems to be a lot of extra hats, mitts, etc. being left on the shelves rather than being put away. Outdoor footwear stays down on the mat and indoor shoes go up on the shelf, or left in the classroom.

Yafet, our Social Studies blogger says:
In Social Studies this week we had to look at a mural that was near the swimming pool and find out what was important to people in Brentwood by sketching and thinking about the objects in the mural. We also looked at the painting son the side walk behind the community garden as well as the paintings in the community garden.

Leo, our Math blogger reports:
This week in math, we continued in increasing number patterns. We also had to do our Halloween math problems and correct our math stretch corrections.

Nicholas, our Daily Five blogger reports:
In Daily Five, we did our groups in daily five.There were five different things Ms. Cowdy gave us. We started guided reading groups, we are writing our spooky story in Work on Writing, and we did a dictionary scavenger hunt in Word Work.

Dhvani, tells us about Science this week:
In Science, did a lot of review for the Science test about light and shadow. The test had questions about light and shadow that we learned throughout the unit.

Oct 7-11 - End of Week 6

End of Week 6!

Important for next week!
Tomorrow is a non instructional day, so there is no school. It will be an extra long Thanksgiving weekend as there is no school Monday either.

We also had a visit from our elder, Saa'kokoto. He showed us a picture of the golden eagle he met this summer. He asked us to draw a picture of it for him.

Work that may be coming home to finish if it didn't get done in class:

  • Math Stretch - Red Duotang
  • Science experiment about the eye - Green Duotang
  • complete the sentences booklet - Purple Duotang
These are all due on Tuesday. Please help your child remember to check in their backpacks to make sure these duotangs come back. We need them everyday.

Literacy Night - please bring your parents from 5pm-7pm and learn about our language arts program.

Swim forms are due Tuesday!

Today in math we learned about increasing and decreasing patterns. Decreasing patterns get smaller and increasing patterns get bigger.

In Daily Five, the grade 3's were doing the SLA and the grade 4's were writing if they went on a voyage, where would you go and what 5 things would they bring? We also had to finish our purple duotang.

In Science, we are still learning about light and shadow. we discovered that some stuff in our school grounds reflect light and some stuff doesn't.

  • Swim forms are coming home today. They are due Tuesday Oct. 15th. We also need volunteers, so if you have your security clearance we would love to have you along.
  • Scholastic forms went home. They are due Friday, Oct. 18th

Monday:

  • Welcome back to Week 6!


Tuesday: 

  • Brag tags were given out for completing Raz Kids as I instructed - students are welcome to work on this at home to. Google raz kids login - Teacher name kjcowdy and then select their name. They should know their password. The go into the reading tab in the top left corner and choose level up. They need to listen to the book, read the book and do the quiz. 
  • School Council Meeting tonight at 7 pm - all are welcome

Wednesday:

  • Library Day today
  • Running Club

Thursday:

  • All Math Stretches and corrections are due today. Students who did not complete the work will be given Uh Oh's and it will be sent home over the weekend to complete. Your help in watching for the red duotang in their backpacks and helping them establish a time to get the work finished would be appreciated.
  • Saakokoto here all day

Friday:

  • Non Instructional Day - No school and Monday is Thanksgiving so no school on Monday either
