May 30 - We've Bean Busy!

3 Swimming Forms are going home tonight. We need volunteers for each of the days so if you could return these ASAP that would be great!
4 If you are interested in volunteering for the Aspen Grove planting, we only have a few volunteers. Please see worth mentioning and the email that came home for further information.
Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned that it matters where the plant is to get heat and light.
How did you show what you learned?
We placed our bean plants in the learning commons at different windows and we observed that angle of the light  and the amount of heat is different at every window. We know this because we checked the temperature at each of the windows and all the temperatures were different.
What do you need to learn next?
We are curious to see what it looks like when it sprouts. We should also learn about the different stages of a bean sprouts growth.

What did you learn today?
We learned that many people travel in different ways when they are going to school in India.
How did you show what you learned?
We continued watching videos about 8 different ways that kids go to school in India. Ask me about them.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn about food and culture in India.

May 28 - Science Test

3 Science - Rocks and Minerals Tests are coming home today in your green folders. There will be a rewrite on next Friday (June 1) for those that choose to improve their mark. Please discuss these results with your child.

What did you learn today?
We learned about the parts of a dandelion.
How did you show what you learned?
We dug up a dandelion (last Friday) and we had to draw a sketch and tell what we thought the function (job) each part of the plant does.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to grow a bean plant and do the Great Bean Experiment.

May 24 - Ice Cream Truck

What did you learn today?
We learned how to use perimeter in the grids. We also learned how area and perimeter are different.
How did you show what you learned?
We used a 1 cm grid sheet and we drew different shapes to show the perimeter in the textbook. Ask me to show you a shape with a 12 cm perimeter! Let's get trucking!
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn more about area.

May 23 - Perimeter with Spongebob

3 Tomorrow we will be going to Nose Hill to work on our sketches. Please bring a hat, a water bottle, sunscreen or bug spray (if you need) and good walking shoes.

We learned about perimeter.
How did you show what you learned?
We talked about the formula for perimeter and what perimeter means. Spongebob helped!
What do you need to learn next?
We need to practice doing perimeter for our year end math project.

May 17 - Questions and Answers Relationship!

What did you learn today?
We reviewed the QAR which is the Question and Answer Relationship.
How did you show what you learned?
We were answering our Transportation in India questions. We had to use the QAR to help us with finding the answers. There is Right There, Think and Search, Author and Me, On Your Own.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to put the QAR into practice and thinking about what we read and making connections to help us understand what we are learning about.

May 16 - Bumpy Ride

3 Whole School photo order form coming home. The photo will be taken on Tuesday May 22. The order form and the money is due May 22.
4 No School on Friday and Monday.
5 We are hoping to go with our sketch artist up to Nose Hill on Tuesday and/or Thursday, depending on if we get enough volunteers. We would need at least 2 parents for each day. It would be from 1pm-3:30. Please let Ms Cowdy know ASAP if you would like to come with us! kjcowdy@cbe.ab.ca

We learned more about India's transportation.

We answered some questions about transportation in India and we read a bit about the different ways that students (if they even can go to school) get to school. Ask me what the most interesting one is?

We are (hopefully) learning about Indian food next!

May 11 - Saa'kokoto and the Visit to the Medicine Wheel

What did you learn today?
We went to the Medicine Wheel with Blackfoot Elder, Saa'kokoto. He then spent some time in our class teaching us.
How did you show what you learned?
We are writing in our FAF journals about all the things that Saa'kokoto shared with us. Ask me about the story of the Eagle and the Medallion.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn more about what the buffalo provides and hear some more of Saa'kokoto's stories.

We learned about some of the physical features of the land and we learned about the clothing.
How did you show what you learned?
We saw some authentic Indian clothing brought in by one of the students in Room 5.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn more about the physical features of the land, like Eastern and Western Ghats mountains or the Arabian Sea.

What did you learn today?
We learned about the new place we are "travelling" to, in Social Studies.
How did you show what you learned?
We used Google Earth to travel to India! We then packed a "suitcase" with things we might need if we went to India at this time of year. We filled in a map of the countries that border India. We coloured the flag of India.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn about national symbols, music and dance, living in India, traditions, learn about the terrain and landforms, transportation and FOOD!

We learned about the spelling patterns, ful, re and our and Ms Jone's group learned on the patterns th and wh.
How did you show what you learned?
We made words with the letters that Ms Cowdy gave us and we scramble the letters to make words. Ask me what the secret word!
What do you need to learn next?
We have to create transfer words and make meaningful, fantastic five letter word sentences with those words.

May 3 - Something to Celebrate!

What did you learn today?
We learned how to perform in front of an audience more professionally than we did the last time.
How did you show what you learned?
We put on a rock show with three songs and some speaking parts all about rocks and minerals. We also shared with the parents our ww stories and the rocks and minerals identification chart.
Thanks to all the parents who took time out of their busy days to come to celebrate our learning with us.

We read a book about tattling. The 4 rules about tattling are: Be a Danger Ranger, Mind Your own Beeswax, Now Problem or a Not Now Problem, Be A Problem Solver.
What do you need to learn next?
We nee to think before we tattle and follow those rules.

We learned that some of our choices are in need rethinking, because it is MAY and we should know what is acceptable and unacceptable by this time in the year. 
How did you show what you learned?
We made a chart that was divided into UNACCEPTABLE and ACCEPTABLE choices.
What do you need to learn next?
We should start making the acceptable choices more often to make them habits, ESPECIALLY considering that we have had all year to practice
