May 30 - Building!!!

2 Bring in a cereal box for our Cereal Box Book project
3 We will be building our cars again tomorrow - if there is any material that you want to bring in to finish your car please bring it tomorrow.
4 FAF tomorrow - dress for the weather
Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned how to build a car out of materials we brought from home.
What were some challenges that students had?

  • gluing things together so they stick
  • the wheels aren't turning
  • using hot glue without hurting your fingers
  • not popping balloons
  • keeping track of your materials
  • advanced planning so that you don't have to undo your work
  • rebuild your car

What do you need to learn next?
We need to finish building them tomorrow and do our first test next Thursday. Here are some pics of our build!

May 29th - Pickled Polygon

What did you learn today?
We played with geoboards and made polygons. We also looked up words for many types of polygons. Ask me what a name of one of my polygons is. 
How did you show what you learned?
We created shapes on the geoboards, named them and recorded them on geopaper. 
What do you need to learn next?
We are going to learn about different types of polygons.

We learned about the indigenous people's languages and how they are endangered.

We watched a video.
What do you need to learn next?
We are going to learn the number to 10 in the Blackfoot language.

May 27 - Timeline Art

What did you learn today?
We learned about the 3rd part of our timeline art which is 5600 years ago til the mid 1800's.
How did you show what you learned?
We drew a picture of what Alberta would look like during this time period.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to finish our work and start the next timeline picture.

May 24- Decomposing in Whispering Woods

2 Homework: How does composting happen? What are the reaction that need to take place in order for something to decompose? Are there certain things that living matter need to start decomposing?
Highlights
What did you learn today?
We dug up the items that we buried in October.
How did you show what you learned?
We observed the items and sketched them onto our recording sheet and wrote down what had changed.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn about how things decompose in order to try and figure out what happened to the carrot and the cupcake wrapper. Check out the pictures of before and after.

May 23-CARS!!!!

Agenda:
1 Read
2 Ethnobotany Expert brag tags are tomorrow. If you did not get it finished you can still hand it in tomorrow. 
3 Word Work is due tomorrow. We also have our spelling test.
4 FAF - Please dress for the weather.
5 We started our Building Devices that Move unit today. Students will be building a car next Thursday and Friday. That means that they need to bring in the materials that they need to construct their vehicle. Cheap, easy and reusable or recyclable. If you have parental permission you can look up ideas on the internet this weekend.

What did you learn today?
We learned about the background knowledge that we need to build our cars in our Science unit.
How did you show what you learned?
We filled out questions on our logbook and we discussed it as a group what the different scientific word meant.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to plan and design our car, bring in our materials and build it next Thursday.
